Mayo Clinic benefactors and friends express their support and thanks for your hard work during the pandemic!

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have looked for ways to express their gratitude and support for the frontline health care workers, innovative researchers and others who have worked so hard, and sacrificed so much, to help others.

Recently, Dr. Evanthia Galanis and the Development team offered benefactors and friends of Mayo Clinic the opportunity to write their own messages of gratitude to the Mayo Clinic staff. The response was amazing, and we’re happy to share some of those messages with you now.

I want to thank all the people in the Mayo system for being so brave and being on the front line to help patients every day.

I have been going to Mayo for 6 1/2 years. The Mayo staff always make me feel like I am their most important patient. I am so thankful for Mayo Clinic.

I can’t thank the staff at Mayo Clinic enough for their kindness and making me feel special. I was treated like I was an important person. Everyone knew and remembered my name.

I had surgery performed at the beginning of May when hospitals could start doing elective procedures again. As always, I was treated so very well by everyone whom I interacted with, pre- to post-surgery. My doctor and anesthesiologist were great about explaining what was going to be done and then getting me settled in the operating room. During post-op, my nurses were outstanding. Everyone was super efficient, professional and courteous. What a wonderful institution Mayo is! My sincere gratitude to all its associates whom I have been fortunate to have handling my medical needs over the last 10 years. Stay safe and be well.

The fact you place yourselves in harm's way speaks volumes of the love and caring you have for your patients. You are indeed true heroes. Thank you!

I am 69 years of age and owe my life to everyone at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Scottsdale and Jacksonville. I have no words to express my respect for everyone.

I feel like family when I am at Mayo Clinic. I know so many of my friends who go to other hospitals, and they tell stories that I cannot relate to. The environment is warm, friendly, professional and extremely informative. Time is given as needed; I never feel rushed.

I never cease to be amazed at the knowledgeable and caring teams at Mayo at all levels. Thank you for your dedication to each and every patient you treat!

I was a pilot with a major airline and was grounded, due to tremors in my hands. After being told by my neurologist that he could do nothing else for me, seven years later, as my hands shook uncontrollably, I went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. The doctors there not only solved the problem, but I was able to fly again. Need I say more? They're simply the best.

You are the best. I continually insist that Mayo is where I always choose to go. You listen, you think and you provide the best action. I think of you as my friends. Thank you.

After three cancer diagnoses, I'm still here at age 42 thanks to each and every one of you. Your kindness, your science, your guidance, your persistence, your bravery and your humanity inspire me every day. Thank you for all the critical work you have done and continue to do. You are all amazing.

My team at Mayo has exceeded my expectations and has restored my faith in medical professionals. I am so very grateful for them.

I just visited the clinic and I was again in awe of the seamless coordination of my caregivers, and the willingness to make sure that every answer was given and sought out for my personal experience. At the Mayo Clinic, my experience was excellent. For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel like I was being rushed out of a doctor’s office so the next patient could enter. Doctors actually cared about my story, read my charts and asked me questions. I had a general exam, and the doctors diagnosed my condition really early in my stay, so I could get the education I need to help treat it. Thank you, Mayo Clinic. You truly help change lives.

Every single person we met at Mayo was so kind and helpful — well organized. These qualities made our visit less stressful. We are so thankful that Mayo exists with thorough and professional staff, including those behind the scenes such as lab techs, housekeeping and bookkeepers.

I also want to thank the unknown workers: the ones that clean up, haul trash, scrub patients’ rooms and toilets — everything that they do that goes under the radar. A clock has many working parts, and so does a hospital racing against time to beat this hideous disease. I would like the staff, all the staff, to know that I have been thinking about you. In particular single parents, with a struggle at home and having to face work despite all of the challenges. You all are loved deeply.
