AI startup valuations are doubling and tripling within months as back-to-back funding rounds fuel a stunning growth spurt

In 2025, many AI startups have landed multiple funding rounds in rapid succession, often seeing their valuations double or triple within months. That list includes mid-size firms such as Abridge and OpenEvidence, among more than a dozen companies riding this “valuation-velocity.” At the same time, the boom in AI investing is amplifying demand for compute infrastructure — a trend that highlights the importance of major hardware providers such as NVIDIA in powering the underlying AI wave.  Read more...

Abbott bolsters diagnostics portfolio with buyout of Exact Sciences
CNBC

Abbott announced in November it will acquire Madison-based Exact Sciences, the maker of Cologuard and other cancer-diagnostic tests, in a deal valued at more than $21 billion. The move gives Abbott a major foothold in cancer screening and precision oncology, while Exact Sciences will continue operating from Madison as a subsidiary once the deal closes. Read more...

In a recent article, Peter Noseworthy, MD, discusses a new shift in approach to detecting and treating a rare heart condition that often goes undetected.  

Dr. Noseworthy is a consultant in the Division of Heart Rhythm services, and his research focuses on identifying genetic contributors to risk of sudden cardiac death, QT prolongation and drug-induced arrhythmias. He also serves as the medical director for Mayo Clinic Business Development, where he oversees proactive business partnerships and strategic collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, equity investing and the commercialization of Mayo Clinic technologies for the benefit of patients worldwide while generating revenue to support clinical practice, research and education at Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic 2025 Distinguished Inventor
Cynthia McCollough, PhD, was honored in November as the 2025 recipient of Mayo Clinic’s Distinguished Inventor Award. This award is given to recognize a member of the Mayo Clinic voting staff whose career demonstrates great distinction in innovative and impactful contributions to the betterment of human health through successful invention of novel healthcare solutions.  View a clip from the award ceremony.

Mayo Clinic showcased at BioLabs European launch
Last month, Mayo Clinic leaders joined Charité and Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris counterparts in Berlin for the BioLabs European launch, with Governor Tim Walz also in attendance. Productive discussions with Gov. Walz and Charité CEO Dr. Heyo Kroemer highlighted strong interest in deeper collaboration, especially around robotics, innovation pilots and future exchange delegations.
